Fred Stoker, born in Blyth, North’d was living at 62 Grafton Road, Acton at the time of the 1911 census. His age is shown as 32, and occupation shown as Medical Practitioner. ( His census return shows Fred (not Frederick ) )

His wife is shown as Mary Wilkie Stoker, born Ryton aged 28. They had a servant, Rosanna Wilkinson, aged 19 who was born in Seaton Delaval.

On the 1901 census he was at 13 Bath Terrace, Blyth, aged 22 and a “student of medicine”

He married Mary Wilkie Smith at Gateshead (probably Ryton ) in JAS Qr 1906.

I can further trace them through censuses etc , and provide copies of the census pages if you need me to.

  2. I AM TRYING TO FIND THE HISTORY OF A TEAM MY GREAT UNCLE PLAYED FOR IT WAS BLYTH SHAMROCKS,HE LIVED AND PLAYED OUTSIDE RIGHT FOR THEM.
HE WAS ALSO BORN AND LIVED IN BLYTH.

I KNOW THE HISTORY OF BLYTH,AND WONDER NOW BECAUSE OF THE IRISH CONNECTION,IF THEY STARTED OFF AS THE SHAMROCKS ,THEN BECAME THE SPARTANS.

PERHAPS FRED HID HIS IRISH ANCESTORS

MY GRT, UNCLE WAS KILLED IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR ,HE IS MENTIONED IN THE OBITURIE OF HIS MOTHER ,
IN THE LOCAL BLYTH NEWS PAPER
AS” HAVING PLAYED OUTSIDE RIGHT FOR THE BLYTH SHAMROCKS.
THE LOCAL TEAM ,WHICH WON CONSIDERABLE DISTINCTION IN THOSE DAYS.”

    MORE INTRIGUE.

Cheers Jane, will ask about among those who might know. Have you gone direct to the club?

  5. Blyth Spartans didn’t start off as the Shamrocks, or any other name , when founded they were a new team. Spartans were founded when your GU was only about 5 !

I have researched the name and can find no link between him and Spartans, but I will keep looking for you.

Cheers Alisdair. I’d like to know where Jane is getting this information about Blyth Shamrocks, there’s not much of a record of them even existing.
